چکیده

Climate change and associated Arctic amplification cause a degradation of permafrost which in turn has major implications for the environment. The potential turnover frozen ground from carbon sink to source, eroding coastlines, landslides, amplified surface deformation endangerment human infrastructure are some consequences connected with thawing permafrost. Satellite remote sensing is hereby powerful tool identify monitor these features processes on spatially explicit, cheap, operational, long-term basis up circum-Arctic scale. By filtering after selection relevant keywords, total 325 articles 30 international journals published during last two decades were analyzed based study location, spatio-temporal resolution applied data, platform, sensor combination studied environmental focus comprehensive overview past achievements, current efforts, together future challenges opportunities. temporal development publication frequency, utilized platforms/sensors addressed topic thereby highlighted. number publications more than doubled since 2015. Distinct geographical hot spots revealed, while at same time large portions continuous zone still only sparsely covered by satellite investigations. Moreover, studies related greenhouse gas emissions context appear heavily underrepresented. New tools (e.g., Google Earth Engine (GEE)), methodologies deep learning or data fusion etc.) Methane Remote Sensing LiDAR Mission (Merlin) Sentinel-fleet) will enable further investigate distribution permafrost, its thermal state environment such as thermokarst emission rates increasingly larger spatial scales.

Modeling Earth Observation Satellite Data Semantically

This paper presents preliminary research results on using semantic technologies to model Earth observation satellite data. The research goal is to enhance the data search functionalities that satellite data catalogues provide to researchers and practitioners. An ontology that captures characteristics of satellite data is introduced. How to utilize this ontology in assisting data search and how ...

Optimized Filtering and Compression System for an Earth Observation Satellite

Most earth observation satellites in their daily image processing routine operate using the “store and forward” mechanism; this mode of operation is not efficient due to the huge amount of data that has to be stored on-board the satellite (but cannot due to memory constraints). The Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) 3U CubeSat named ZACUBE-02 will perform the filtering and compressi...
